Matusalem & Company was founded by brothers Benjamin and Eduardo Camp, who left Spain in 1872 and settled in Santiago de Cuba to establish a rum distillery. Read more

The Camp brothers brought their knowledge and experience in the Solera system, commonly used in the production of Spanish cognac and sherry, when establishing the rum distillery. In 1995, Dr. Claudio Alvarez Salazar, the great-grandson of the founder, acquired the trademark rights for Matusalem in an out-of-court settlement. In 2002, Matusalem & Company was relaunched, with a focus on its Cuban roots and targeting the high-end market. Today, the rum is produced in the Dominican Republic.
