In 1955, the Karuizawa distillery in Miyota, Japan, was ceremoniously inaugurated. It officially commenced operations a year later. With only four copper stills, Karuizawa was the smallest whisky distillery in Japan. Read more

The facility primarily produced malt whiskies, which were released as strictly limited editions. Until the year 2000, the brand was part of the globally operating beverage company Mercian Corporation. In 2011, operations were discontinued. This cessation of business turned the remaining whisky stocks into precious rarities with high collectible value. They are now available under a new brand name in the premium spirits segment. Some selected creations have fewer than 100 bottles in existence.
