In 1820, he laid the foundation for his business, and his nickname "Johnnie Walker" became the company's name. After his passing in the mid-19th century, his son and later his grandsons took over the operation. Today, Johnnie Walker is part of the Diageo spirits conglomerate. The brand's image is characterized by its square bottles, logo, and color-coded labeling of the releases. Limited special editions are occasionally available.
